Regency Assurance is proud to support a cultural heritage initiative delivered through its partnership with the Department of Youth in Nevis, sponsoring the expansion of their highly successful Youth Impact Awards program. The initiative highlights Regency’s ongoing commitment to meaningful community development and is closely aligned with Regency’s Corporate Social Responsibility pledge, shaped by the principles of the United Nations Global Compact.
Created and led by Hon. M. Jahnel Nisbett, Minister responsible for Health, Gender Affairs, Community Affairs and Social Services, the initiative focused on preserving the traditional Moko Jumbie stilt-walking artform. With participation in this longstanding cultural practice declining, the program provided a structured, supportive environment to pass this tradition on to the next generation. Through expert instruction and personalised guidance, children aged 8-12 developed balance, discipline, cultural pride, and confidence. A particular emphasis was placed on empowering girls to take part in an artform where their representation has historically been limited.
The program also strengthened community connection, offering young participants the opportunity to demonstrate their new skills at cultural events, enhancing visibility, engagement, and continuity. As a pilot initiative, it lays the groundwork for broader cultural education efforts that can enrich youth development across the island.
Kate Tebbet, Head of Community Engagement at Regency Assurance, said:
“This initiative embodies what we stand for as a trusted and community-focused organisation. By supporting Hon. M. Jahnel Nisbett’s vision, we helped create an empowering space for young people to develop new skills, build confidence, and stay connected to their cultural roots. Her leadership in preserving tradition while inspiring the next generation is truly commendable.”
The program advances several UN Sustainable Development Goals, including Quality Education, Gender Equality, Reduced Inequalities, and Peace, Justice & Strong Institutions. Global findings reflect that children engaged in cultural and creative learning show up to 20% higher levels of confidence and social connection, reinforcing the importance of initiatives like this.
Regency Assurance remains committed to backing initiatives that strengthen community resilience, preserve cultural identity, and create meaningful opportunities for young people.
